Fess up, dear readers and eaters

I learned from my last post that (a) I have six readers! wow! and (b) you people like to talk about food idiosyncrasies. So tell me, dear readers whose numbers are approaching the double digits, what commonly appreciated foods do you yourselves not eat?

Me first: I've never had a cup of coffee. I just don't like it. I like coffee ice cream and coffee candy, and even chocolate-covered beans. But the bitter taste of liquid coffee (even sweetened and cut with milk) just curls my tongue. I drink black tea by the vat.

And since he didn't chime in himself, I'll say that I think Dave did enjoy the PB&J. I'd like to give my mom's homemade pomegranate jelly credit for that.

Most of my food idiosyncrasies are about things that I publicly renounce and secretly sometimes eat. Pork? I don't touch it (leftover vegetarianism at its best). I mean, really, ew. Yet after the last discussion here about tasty pig, I bought a package of bacon and ate the whole thing across a 3 or 4 day BLT-fest. I'm also happy to eat sizeable portions of steak, so long as the steak was ordered by someone else at a restaurant where my relatives can't see me eat it.

Salmon, on the other hand, is a nasty piece of work. No matter how many other kinds of fish I enjoy, and no matter how many times I try salmon, it's always disgusting. Smoked, steamed, sushi, all for naught. Bleh.

I think I've shunned all things I don't want to eat from my food-brain. Many things I eat now I wouldn't have touched 10 years ago (olives, indian food, thai food, salsa). Raisins are what come to mind as something I won't eat (though, like all good rules, there are exceptions -- like Moroccan stews).

But, while I'm sure there are tons of things I won't go near (fennel and caraway seeds!), I can't really think of what they are. They are dead to me.

I love chocolate. I love peanut butter (although it hates me...but that's another story). I HATE Reeses peanut butter cups.

Hard boiled eggs in any form (sanwiches or anything) make me gag.

i'm right there with you with the coffee. i grew up with the smell, but never developed the taste.

i'm also not fond of really smoky salmon and lox. ok in sushi or fresh and prepared well.

cooked cabbage, especially in soup, is stinky and gross.

I am not a big fan of Quail, it is too "gamey." Which brings me to the whole section of game - Elk, Venison, etc., I just stay away.

S'mores; the Devil's Own.

Gefilte fish. Sorry.
