Kumquocktails

Flowers and kumquats

This weekend we attended the wedding of some very dear friends. The floral arrangements at the wedding were orange, green and brown, and several tables were decorated with wooden bowls full of kumquats mixed with orange flowers. Edible table decorations are a great conversation starter.

So I was inspired to buy some kumquats while I was shopping this afternoon. Dave quickly figured out that five kumquats, a couple of spoonfuls of sugar, and two ounces of vodka muddled very well with lots of ice makes a delightful cocktail. And I figured out that it's very difficult to combine the words "kumquat" and "cocktail" into one word that doesn't sound vulgar. Try it yourself and you'll see what I mean.

if you fixed it straight-up, you'd have a kumquatini.

brian sez: "it's easy to put away 2 oz of vodka like this" and then "those [kumquat] carcasses are still pretty tart" (as we sit sipping our kumquocktails and eating the muddled 'carcasses' while catching up on yer blog)
