World's best recovery food, and also a satisfying midnight snack

Researchers at Indiana University have proven (sort of) what I have known all along: Chocolate milk is the best post-workout recovery food. Better, at least, than Endurox R4.

Scientists long ago determined that eating carbs and protein in a 4:1 ratio within 30 minutes of a long workout helps the recovery process immensely. So there are a lot of fancy sports recovery drinks out there engineered to that specification.

Me, I've always stuck with chocolate milk. When you add the nutritional values from one cup of milk and one serving of chocolate syrup, you get that magical 4:1 ratio, plus all the other good, natural stuff that comes in milk. But I have several friends who prefer Endurox for some reason. To which I say: gross. And also: ew.

No offense to you Endurox-drinkers out there, and I know some of you read this here web site, but seriously. Let's compare.

 Endurox R4Chocolate Milk
Flavor OK, I haven't tried it, but how can a chalky-looking engineered sports drink possibly be as good as chocolate milk? YUM.
Source Lab Happy California cow,
Wholesome Hershey's factory
Cost $1.43 per 12oz serving at Sports Basement $0.35 for the milk plus $0.05 for the chocolate syrup = $0.40 per serving
Storage requirements Can be stored and consumed at any temperature (ick) Must be refrigerated
Placebo effect from spending $40 on a can of product developed by Leading Exercise Physiologists that practically makes you bionic Priceless Nonexistent

Doesn't a cold glass of chocolate milk sound good right now?

Yes! And I haven't even had a workout... I actually just bought [ahem] corn syrup-free organic chocolate syrup. Maybe that'll be the rest of dinner tonight.

ok, ok. now i agree with most things you say here, my dear buddy. but when, post said workout, one's stomach is staging a mass mutiny and needs to get some recovery stuff into the system, dairy can be a baaaad choice. i'm all for the happy cow/hershey's combo, but there's something to be said for Chocolate Endurox (or for something different, 1/2 & 1/2 chocolate & vanilla Endurox).

good times.
