This is the second time I have gotten this email in two weeks. It does not instill confidence. It may as well have said this:

Dear ARIEL,

We have been keeping an eye on you and we know your training for the 2006 Ford Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon has been, shall we say, a little shaky. You've gotten quite a bit slower this year and you're probably worried about making the bike cut-off -- we know for darn sure that you don't want to be out there on that saddle for 8 or 9 hours (or longer! our poor volunteers!). Either way, your run will be a death march. And if it's as hot in Madison as it was last year, you are seriously wondering if you'll be able to finish at all. So why not spare yourself the agony and drop out now, while it's not too late to cancel your hotel reservation?

If you are NOT participating in Ironman Wisconsin next week please let us know by replying to: -----@ironmannorthamerica.com with your name and contact information so we can remove your information from the database.

Thank You
Ironman North America

I'm a little nervous.

oh my. time for some positive thinking...ariel, if anyone can complete an ironman (or 3), it's you. and i'm not just saying that. you are a large part of the reason why IM even became a part of my personal vocabulary. you are the epitome of dedication to the sport - i haven't stopped admiring that in you. chin up, ariel. you are going to have a GREAT day. and you are going to kick the bike's booty. :)

I could not agree with Julie more. You will rock the bike course (as well as the swim and run)!!

I third that Ariel - as your bike buddy/training buddy this year, you have logged more miles in the saddle then most sane Ironman triathletes have - and you've endured some of the most hard core (melting AND freezing) days on record, pedaling thru them. So keep your head in check my friend - I cant get thru this without you either - and I will not leave you to defeat on the swim, bike, or run course! You will have a fabulous race, and you will be in for some pleasant surprises along the way. Rock on with our Taper :)

I'm no expert in IM training but it seems to me like you've been working your butt off. Good luck next weekend, you know you have plenty of people rooting for you.

Well. Wow. Another Iron Man? Incredible. I think that they are wise to send letters that say "Are you REALLY sure? I mean, this is difficult. Like, you might puke."

I am ready to puke just thinking of you doing it.

But I think you rock. I am chickenshit. I know this. You, well, you are not.

Go! Ariel! Go! Ariel! Go! Ariel!

The end is near. You've got this race KICKED.

... then we'll have some brunch. :)
