Much, much better

Ronda

It's amazing what a little bathroom surgery followed by 9 hours of sleep will do for some really nasty blisters. My toes are so much better now. I was able to run for close to an hour on the beach -- yes, with proper shoes and socks -- pain-free and with only a little oozing. Good thing I always travel with band-aids, antibiotic ointment, rubbing alcohol and a nail clipper. That's almost enough gear to perform an emergency appendectomy. Just add a bottle of whiskey.

Tomorrow we go on a little adventure that will require me to get up long before sunrise if I want to run. Lucky for me, the fitness center here is open 24 hours a day. I'm not looking forward to it.

Yes, you're definitely someplace with an American influence. Sports clubs here in Scotland - unless they're about "football" - don't seem to be populated by anybody at all, ever. I suspect that they're used more as money laundering operations than actual fitness. And I could tell you when they're open, 'cause I've never seen it happen.

People look at me strange when I mention that we'd be up at 5:30 in the morning at the gym, when we lived in California. 11 am is getting up early here, particularly when one's been consuming large quantities of alcohol in the pub the night before. Ahh, the joys of culture.

T. jokes that she married into the Home Surgery Network. I say that I'm certainly better at it than somebody who can't feel when they're going horribly wrong. ;)
