Happy Hanukkah to us

Flames

Our car has finally entered the 21st century. Last night we bought a new stereo for our little old Camry with -- drumroll please -- an input for an MP3 player.

We've been listening to our ipods in the car for, you know, the last four years or so via a cassette adapter. It wasn't ideal, but it worked just fine. Until the click started. The cassette player started making a loud clicking noise when it played the adapter or any other cassette. Not so noticeable when you're listening to Mates of State or the Chemical Brothers, but painfully distracting when layered over Low or Boards of Canada. Click click click click CLICK. We agonized. Was it worthwhile to get it repaired? Ehhh. Does anyone even repair tape players anymore?

With another drive down to LA and back looming in our near future, we finally decided to go whole hog and get a new stereo. They're pretty cheap these days, although the price doubled by the time we had paid for the installation and all the wiring and extra bits necessary to get it into our dashboard. Which is frustrating because we spent all that money on what is essentially a hole. That's all we needed, the little hole to plug the ipod cable into.

But it's a very nice hole. An important hole. A hole that I wish I had bought a year or two ago. A hole that does not go click click click click CLICK CLICK CLICK.
